The cam sits inside the carriage assembly, where it converts the drive mechanism's rotation into a fixed lateral step. Each pass under the blade advances the product by that same increment, which is what sets slice thickness on these gravity models. As the cam profile wears, the step becomes uneven, slices thicken and thin within the same batch, and the carriage can hesitate mid-stroke. Replacing a worn cam restores that timing without needing to strip down the wider carriage assembly.

Check the model plate before ordering, since Omega's slicer range uses several cam profiles that look similar but are not interchangeable. If you're servicing the machine at the same time, it's worth checking the centre plate rod for play. The perspex safety guard is also worth a look, since both wear out on a similar cycle.
